New Jersey Butterfly Boys: The 3rd NJ Cavalry
October 27 @ 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
They were formed for the last year of the Civil War by an alcoholic ex-officer of the Union Army. Also known as the First American Hussars, the 3rd NJ Cavalry was supposed to entice young men to join a galloping, dashing, romantic unit. Clothed in orange-lined capes and gilt-trimmed hats, they were intended to charge armed only with a saber. However, the “Butterfly Boys” became a historic unit that chased Lee’s forces all the way to Appomattox.
