Join Rich Rosenthal’s two-part program as he discusses the topic of Jews, Antisemitism, and the Civil War:

General Grant’s Infamous Order No. 11:

In order to enforce President Abraham Lincoln’s administration’s  blockade against the Confederacy to cut off the Confederacy from all trade with the North, on December 17, 1862, Gen. Grant issued General Order No. 11, which stated: “The Jews, as a class, violating every regulation of trade established by the Treasury Department, and also Department orders, are hereby expelled from the Department.”

Judah P. Benjamin: Brains of the Confederacy…and a Jew:

As Jefferson Davis’s right-hand man, Judah P. Benjamin was the most politically powerful and important Jew of the 19th century – he was also the most widely hated one in the North and portions of the South. Yet, he was a United States Senator; the first Jew nominated to the US Supreme Court; and served in the Confederacy as Attorney General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State.
