The United States of America was established by the consent of its citizens when they ratified its foundational document, the Constitution. The Constitution is a blueprint for representative self-governance by a politically equal people. It is designed to supply citizens with the ecosystem of order that allows us to live as free human beings. Every citizen’s prime responsibility is to make sure our representatives follow the Constitution. We must hold our representatives to account when they don’t. But we cannot do our part unless we understand how the blueprint works! In this talk, we will explore the idea – liberty – upon which the Constitution is based, the shape of government that liberty requires and how the Constitution is designed to be both durable and to accommodate diversity.
