Chief White Eyes, leader of the Delaware/Lenne Lenape Native American people in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, had converted to Christianity and was a devout Moravian who worked tirelessly to get treaties, including one guaranteeing the Delaware nation territorial rights. The major purpose of their quest was to assure the Delaware tribe’s siding with the Americans and not the British.
Koquethaqechton (White Eyes) founded a town called “White Eyes” near West Lafayette in Ohio in 1770. He had befriended the Moravian leader David Ziesberger and was converted to that faith. Chief White Eyes’ dream was to convert all of his people to Christianity via the Moravian missionaries and to become the fourteenth state. This presentation covers his quest.
