The Wyoming Valley Massacre in Pennsylvania, and the Cherry Valley atrocities in New York State saw the Six Nations (Iroquois) and the British massacre 360 Americans and capture women and children. Both sides felt it necessary to take revenge for earlier attacks. The description of the Battle of Wyoming has since grown into a tale of slaughter of the Iroquois; however, there was more to the story. It was promulgated by the press at the time that printed exaggerated local gossip based on rumors. A year later the Continental Army in New Jersey wintered in Morristown for the Awful, Famous Hard Winter of 1780. This is the story.
