Our nation has always looked for heroes. We have lauded, praised, and publicized legendary and real heroes to the point where the difference between fact and fiction is blurred by mass and social media. Hollywood uses “stars” to portray historical figures that match the portrait created by earlier writers or invent altered new ones.
The picture of George Washington was a larger-than-life national hero of many an American childhood. His portrait was hanging in the front of classrooms across the country next to the American flag and flanked by a picture of Abraham Lincoln.
